Preschool Classroom Screening Procedures

We are excited to partner with your preschool for the developmental screenings.  You will receive a email confirmation of the reserved date/time. If you have any questions, please email our office.

  1. Prior to the screening date, please provide all families the Family letter to explain the process

  2. Provide your staff/teachers the Teacher letter to explain the process

  3. Also, provide staff/teachers the Teacher questions for milestones to review. This may help identify children who may not have previously been identified as having “red flags/concerns”

  4. Encourage families and/or staff to complete an online Ages and Stages Questionnaire for children who are identified as possible concerns. We will review these one week prior to the screening date and it will assist the screening therapist. These will not be available to parents/staff after the screening date unless an individual screening is scheduled with Pediatric Interactions. Staff should review the procedures for completing online ASQ and can access ASQ Questionnaire for individual students. This link has also been shared with families in the Family Letter provided and completed/reviewed Questionnaires will be discussed with the teacher during the scheduled group screenings.

  5. One week prior to the screening, you should receive an email reminder to complete and return the Class list and prepare a Screening Summary for each child in the classroom (with child’s name). If class list is provided at least one week prior, Pediatric Interactions is able to assist with this task if needed.

On the day of your scheduled screenings:

  1. Put name tags on each child for the observation.

  2. The screening typically lasts 20-30 minutes, during which time you can stick to “regular” routine. However, classroom activities that are most conducive to screenings include: table activities (e.g., coloring, cutting), centers, and/or free play. Observation of infant classrooms are more hands-on and involved parent completion of forms in preparation.

  3. What happens if a student is absent? Schools can schedule additional days/times for a therapist to come out, otherwise, the family and/or school can complete an online ASQ and can follow up with a FREE individual screening at Pediatric Interactions.

  4. What if teacher/parents wanted to complete an ASQ, but didn’t return it to Pediatric Interactions in time for screening therapist to review it? No problem….Parents can schedule an individual screening at Pediatric Interactions and will have more time to complete the questionnaire.

Please feel free to contact lauray@pediatricinteractions.com if you have any questions or if there are any conflicts with your scheduled screening dates and times.
