Is Your Child a Picky Eater or a Problem Feeder?

Does your child eat fewer than 20 different foods, struggle to tolerate new foods when they’re introduced, or doesn’t consume enough nutrients from the various food groups for their age? Take our quiz to find out if your child is a “picky eater” or “problem feeder.”

You are not alone and there are strategies to help support children who have difficulty with eating. The goal is to help them feel more comfortable around new foods while building on their current eating skills in a way that creates a safe, enjoyable, and even fun mealtime experience.

The approach taken in this course looks at the whole child, considering factors such as:

  • Oral motor skills: Does your child have the muscle strength and coordination to chew and swallow properly?

  • Sensory preferences: Is your child sensitive to certain textures, tastes, or smells that make eating certain foods overwhelming?

  • Postural stability: Does your child have the proper support to sit comfortably and safely during meals?

  • Nutritional needs: Is your child meeting their age-appropriate nutritional requirements?

  • Behavioral challenges: How does your child respond to mealtime expectations, and how can we make mealtimes more positive and productive?

By addressing these areas, this course helps make mealtimes less stressful and more enjoyable for both the child and their caregivers.
